Coding and Computer Skills Program

We offer beginner and intermediate coding and computer skills classes for all grade levels.

Why Coding?
Coding powers our digital world. Every website, computer program, smartphone app, and even electrical appliances use code to work.

Over the next 5 years, many jobs are projected to disappear to advances in technology, but there will be 2.1 million new opportunities in computer sciences.

Even jobs such as banking, medicine and journalism will also be affected by the need for at least an understanding of programming and coding.

For students today, coding is becoming an essential skill, just like reading, writing, and mathematics.

Our Program
Class sizes are small to maximize one-on-one time between teachers and students, allowing for high-quality, tailored tutoring.
Students will need to bring their own computers.

Computer skills classes are focused on building a strong foundation of computer literacy. Students will learn to use computers and related technology efficiently: search engines, word processing, browser basics, keyboard commands, basic hardware terminology, simple networking diagnosis, security and privacy, and office and design software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. This course is great for students wishing to improve their computer skills for schoolwork.

Coding classes are focused on developing an appreciation and competency in coding and programming. Students will learn how to write their own code to manipulate software programs, edit websites, and create online games and applications. Basic programming languages such as HTML, CSS, Java, C, and C++ will be taught.

Class activities include:
  1. Computer basics—components, terminology, navigation, and maintenance
  2. Keyboard commands and touch typing
  3. Internet research skills and search engine usage
  4. School and office programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  5. Basic programming languages and their applications
  6. Working with online courses on code.org and codecacdemy.com
  7. Customizing and editing websites
  8. Coding games and simple applications

The program guarantees that students will:
  • Understand how computers work
  • Be able to take care of a computer and understand internet safety
  • Be proficient in using programs essential for school success like Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Learn online research and database skills
  • Navigate computer and web browser interface efficiently and quickly
  • Read and understand what code does and how it works
  • Use basic Java code to build their own programs
  • Use HTML and CSS to customize their own websites

Our Coding and Computer Skills program is dedicated to instilling in students a strong foundation of coding and programming, as well sparking the passion for computer science. Students in our program make significant gains in computer skills for success in the future.
